Published on 15.01.2025

The Circular Cities and Regions Initiative has extended its office with two additional branches in order to consolidate and expand the support activities made available to European cities and regions. One of these branches seeks to encourage peer learning and networking, bringing together city and region practitioners within Communities of Practice.

Countries: EU-27

Created with the aim of supporting the CCRI, this dedicated support will act as a multiplier by stimulating connections between cities and regions and by fostering the exchange of experiences and good practices to broaden the CCRI’s impact.

Cities and regions can benefit from a wide range of new activities and opportunities:

  • Communities of Practice: working groups made up of a small number of city and region practitioners who will collaborate on key topics. These communities will target an audience of experienced cities and regions.
  • Twinning programme: pairing together cities and regions facing similar challenges or interests. Twinned cities and regions will share experiences and learn from each other.
  • Capacity building programme: open to all cities or regions, whether advanced or beginner, the programme will build on the experience and knowledge captured by the Communities of Practice.
  • A webinar series and other dissemination activities: events will aim to share achievements and lessons learnt, expand the CCRI community and ultimately bring other cities and regions into the CCRI.
  • Case studies, implementation guidance, policy brief and white papers: the advice will cover key topics addressed in the Communities of Practice and showcase policies implemented by cities and regions.

All activities will build on the work done in the Communities of Practice, following a needs-driven approach to address specific urban and regional opportunities and challenges. Participants will be invited through an open call.

The CCRI Communities of Practice’s activities will complement those already offered by the CCRI Coordination and Support office, the CCRI Knowledge Hub and other CCRI partners.
