ReCreate - Reusing precast concrete for a circular economy
Updated on 21.06.2024
ReCreate aims at closing the loop for concrete at the highest level of utilization by demonstrating the deconstruction and reuse of precast structural components, which retains the secondary material at its highest value. Compared to virgin production, aggregate recycling and backfilling, reusing can reduce energy consumption and carbon footprint by 93-98%. The main objective is to pilot deconstruction and reuse towards maturity as a socio-technical system.
Relevance for Circular Systemic Solutions
This project can be relevant for cities and regions working on CSSs related to circular built environment, especially those interested in the recertification of secondary construction materials. The project aims to help develop Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for reuse of precast concrete components to make the LCA and LCC for other buildings possible. The project can inspire cities and regions in the Mapping phase of their CSS deployment, specifically with analysing the metabolism of the territory.
