Knowledge for Integrated Nutrient Management Action Plan (INMAP)

Updated on 17.06.2024

This report focuses on three major tasks:

  1. the description of the current flows of nitrogen and phosphorus in the EU considering all sources and sectors involved (agriculture, industries, urban, energy and transport) and all environmental losses in air, water, and soils;
  2. the evaluation of the distance to environmental targets, considering the EU legislation and strategies;
  3. the analysis of measures to reduce nutrient pollution at different intervention points in the nutrient cycle.

Relevance for Circular Systemic Solutions

This report can help cities and regions in the Map and Design phases of CSS deployment in the field of bioeconomy, specifically in nutrient recovery and reducing nutrient pollution. The regulatory framework discussed in the report can be useful when mapping the policy framework in Europe. The assessment of major nutrient flows can help cities and regions identify areas of intervention in their locality. The comparison of different modeling systems for different nutrient pollution reduction scenarios could also help with monitoring during the Implement phase.
