Energy Labelling Framework - Regulation (EU) 2017/1369

Updated on 24.05.2023

This is Regulation (EU) 2017/1369 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 4 July 2017 setting a framework for energy labelling and repealing Directive 2010/30/EU (Text with EEA relevance). This Regulation lays down a framework that applies to energy-related products placed on the market or put into service in the EU. It provides for the labelling of those products and the provision of standard product information regarding energy efficiency, the consumption of energy and of other resources by products during use. A standardised mandatory label for energy-related products is an effective means by which to provide potential customers with comparable information on the energy efficiency of energy-related products.

Key objectives and (or) targets related to cities & regions

The Energy Labelling Regulation sets graded schemes to declare the energy performance of products, but also other supplementary dimensions such as noise or pollution. It now evolves more and more towards the use of resources as well. Local authorities are not in direct control of implementation of this regulation, but the labelling schemes can help local authorities in their procurement activities and/or when advising citizens/consumers on purchase directions (e.g. via awareness raising campaigns).
