Key objectives and (or) targets related to cities & regions

The EU’s Chemicals Strategy does not specifically outline goals and objectives for cities or regions. However, it promotes interregional collaboration along sustainable chemicals value chains, using Smart Specialisation to accelerate the development of joint investment projects. It emphasises that the transition to sustainable chemicals must consider socio-economic consequences, including employment impacts on specific regions, sectors, and workers. Additionally, it aims to unify governance on chemical standards across regions.

Some actions required from Member States include:

  • investing in projects facilitating the green and digital transition of EU industries, including the chemical sector, to enhance the competitiveness of sustainable EU industry;
  • prioritising integrated enforcement through multi-legislation checks;
  • utilising the Recovery and Resilience Facility to invest in strengthening market surveillance infrastructures and digitalisation.
