Meet the CCRI stakeholders: Roubaix (CCRI Pilot)

Published on 23.11.2023

An interview with Alexandre Garcin, Deputy Mayor of Roubaix.

Countries: France

What attracted you to join the CCRI?

The city of Roubaix, situated in Northern France, encountered the decrease of its textile industry in the second half of the 20th century. As an answer to our problems, we seized innovation and circular economy as a way to build a new future.

What are you hoping to achieve by participating as a Pilot?

The CCRI is a great opportunity to share solutions and be more efficient together. Considering the ecological transformation we have to commit, we have to share our failures and our success first between leading cities and then with all other European cities that want to take the same road.

What circular economy experience can you bring to the CCRI community?

As an old textile capital, we have a lot of initiatives on circular economy in the textile industry. But we are also working on other thematic areas such as circular economy in construction, furniture, and food. Convinced that the future could be ‘low tech’, we would like to develop projects that are low tech and at the same time circular.
