Greenhood - Nutrient balance and Resource Optimization in Regional Ecosystems through holistic, sustainable, and zero-pollution solution

Updated on 27.02.2026

Unbalanced nutrient flows are causing major environmental problems worldwide. Excess nutrients, like nitrogen and phosphorus, lead to issues such as water pollution and loss of biodiversity. These imbalances are particularly harmful in agriculture, wastewater treatment and aquaculture. Without effective management, the damage to ecosystems will worsen. With this in mind, the EU-funded GREENHOOD project will focus on nutrient flow rebalancing. Operating across four European countries and one associated region, it develops strategies to reduce nutrient emissions and promote sustainability. Key efforts include engaging stakeholders, creating nutrient circular economies and demonstrating effective management practices in key sectors. GREENHOOD seeks to build a future where ecosystems are healthy and nutrient use is optimised for long-term sustainability.
