Link to existing circular economy action plan
The Municipality of Grosuplje started with the activities related to implementation of a Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP), especially in terms of defining the main activities and connecting with local, regional, and international stakeholders. The principles and commitments that we follow in the field of implementing circularity that will be emphasised in the CEAP are the following: rent instead of purchase; service instead of product; sharing instead of ownership; and industrial symbiosis.
CE is a systems solution framework that tackles global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution. In connection with the loss of biodiversity and the reduction of pollution, we have already begun to connect with Slovenian and foreign institutions in different projects. For optimal transition to a CE, we also strive to ensure self-sufficiency in food, the appropriate management of natural resources and a healthy living environment, including the expansion of green spaces. Great emphasis is placed on short delivery chains and the use of locally grown food in restaurants.
The aim of the municipality is also to create a stable and secure environment that promotes sustainable development, seeks to make green all economic activities, strengthens social cohesion, and educates responsible consumers.

Other activities
Despite Grosuplje being a relatively new city, its CE activities and openness to innovation are well known. By cooperating and connecting, we prevent the generation of waste and reduce negative impacts on the environment, directing our attention to extending the lifespan of products and materials. We also understand that the CE can only come to life if everyone is involved in it with their daily decisions – the population, the economy, the non-governmental sector, educational and research institutions, and government structures.
In general, we give priority to the renovation or replacement of dilapidated buildings over the construction of new ones. In the EUCF project, an inquiry will be made into the feasibility of renovating buildings.
The municipality was also the first initiator to expand the city's passenger traffic from Ljubljana across the city's municipal border with the city bus line 3G. In 2019, a new secure bicycle shed for electric bicycles with solar panels and a management system was established in Grosuplje to integrate energy efficiency and a reduction of CO2 emissions.
Our municipality is also characterised by extraordinary biodiversity, which we try to preserve for future generations. For that purpose, the Radensko Polje Landscape Park was established.
In 2021 the Municipality of Grosuplje was connected to a natural gas pipeline for the supply of householders to reduce CO2 emissions and energy consumption, while improving air quality.
