Regrada Třinec

REGRADA Třinec, established in 1991, is a voluntary non-profit and non-governmental association comprised of 43 members. It is in the easternmost corner of the Těšínské Slezsko region of Czechia (the part of the Moravian-Silesian Region/CZ, bordering Poland and Slovakia). REGRADA Třinec's mission is to develop and support the region in key fields such as the innovation, entrepreneurship, environment, education, tourism, and international cooperation. Three of the staff currently work on these topics including circular economy (CE).

The members of the cluster include 22 local municipalities, 12 companies (operating in heavy and engineering industries, strategic and marketing planning, waste management, project and financial management, health sector, law, tourism, construction, etc.) and 9 non-profit organisations/NGOs (focused on education, international cooperation, social services, trade unions, tourism, etc.).

REGRADA Třinec has lately approved the updated territorial strategy (titled ‘Smarter Together, 2022’) reflecting CE principles in line with Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP). The regional priorities related to circular economy cover following topics:

Other activities

The region is involved in the CirkArena project, that is one of the key strategic projects in Moravian-Silesian region and the most distinctive REGRADA Třinec´s CE project involvement.

 

The CirkArena project stands for the future circlular economy research and implementation centre based on triple helix cooperation between regional/local institutions (including REGRADA Třinec), regional and national universities, and numerous private companies situated in the region. The project design is in line with CE global trends, including research and business competition models.

 

The preparation of the project started in 2020. The project aims to be supported through the operational programme Just Transition. The project pre-feasibility study was consulted with JASPERS representatives.

 

The research will be particularly focused on three sectors:

  1. specific local waste, (i.e. industrial waste from steel and coal, including dangerous waste treatment)
  2. biowaste
  3. construction waste
